PROBLEM:
The
job looks beautiful until you remove the garment from the hoop and find
it looks like it's enframed, resulting from the hoop rings that have crushed
the fabric and leaving you in a panic. This crushed fabric ring is known
as "hoop burn" or "fabric burn." This is common to fabrics like velvet,
corduroy, fleece, terry and various others.
SOLUTION:
Prevention
is always best when dealing with this problem. A popular method is to wrap
athletic gauze or twill tape around the inner hoop before hooping the garment
or place tissue paper between the inside ring and fabric. Once the fabric
is crushed however, there are a few things that can be done depending on
how the fabric will react to the process:
1)
Steam the area to encourage the fibers back into place.
2)
Spritz the area with a solution of one third vinegar and two thirds water.
3)
Spray with Magic Sizing fabric finish, a spray starch used in ironing. |
