PROBLEM:
On designs that require the cleanest trims, such as the order that requests close trims between the small letters, there's an answer at your local medical supply or hobby store. Hemostats are long handled, scissor-like clamps used for a variety of medical purposes. They have many uses in the embroidery shop, including the number one headache of threading a needle, and they can also save the day when clipping those teeny letters.

SOLUTION:
Clamp the end of the hemostat at the center of the connecting thread and hold taut, clipping first one side, close to the stitching and then, continuing to hold taut, clip the other. This will hold the thread up just tight enough so that it will pull back much of the thread end within the stitching to hide the extra fuzz that can become annoying to remove and cause the small lettering to appear messy.
