PROBLEM:
Some
design systems offer automatic functions that adds the underlay prior to
sewing each section, but this doesn't stabilize the entire design prior
to setting down top stitches, especially if the design is a solid fill
style with no or little open spaces. This can create a situation
for gaps in registration to occur later between filled sections and/or
between any outlines and main stitching. It also can be one cause
of fabric puckers around the design.
SOLUTION:
Set
down your lock-in stitch at the center of the entire deisgn (when possible).
Continue by digitizing a vertical line from the center point to the top,
then return to the bottom. Then working in a sparse zig zag fashion
(as: /\/\/\ ) over the entire design, make lines of running stitch to the
right, then return to the left edge, then back to the center (lines will
appear similar to: XXX). Follow this by digitizing this zig zag horizontally
to create a sparse grid. Use your descretion as to the number of
zig zag lines to use, and keep them to a minimum. This causes a "rolling-pin-on-dough"
type of action that gradually travels across the fabric, securing the fabric
to the stabilizers and prepares the surface for remaining placement of
more underlay and top stitches. |
